Purchasing Specialist
Pay: $25 - $32 per hour, based on experience

We’re seeking a Purchasing Specialist to join our Materials team and play a key role in supporting Engineering and Manufacturing operations through timely, cost-effective procurement. In this role, you’ll help ensure materials and services are sourced efficiently, supplier relationships are maintained, and purchasing activities stay aligned with production schedules and business goals.

You’ll collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and suppliers to manage purchase orders, monitor inventory needs, resolve supply challenges, and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented purchasing professional who enjoys problem-solving, building relationships, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Purchasing Specialist Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Procure materials and services from outside vendors to support Engineering and Manufacturing schedules
  • Request and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and issue purchase orders to ensure timely delivery
  • Monitor and expedite open purchase orders while maintaining accurate purchasing records and documentation
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, support vendor agreements, and participate in supplier performance reviews and improvement initiatives
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and planning teams to clarify material requirements, support procurement decisions, and proactively resolve supply issues
  • Monitor inventory levels, run procurement and rebalance reports, and help prevent material shortages or production disruptions
  • Assist with receiving materials, coordinating inspections and distribution, and returning defective products for replacement or credit as needed
  • Analyze purchasing data to identify cost-saving opportunities and support reporting for management decision-making
  • Follow all company policies, safety standards, and ISO requirements while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Complete additional duties as assigned; travel may be required

Purchasing Specialist Job Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of purchasing, procurement, or materials management experience required
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Global Shop Solutions, or similar platforms strongly preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CPP, CPSM, or CSCP are a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with purchase orders, bill of materials changes, supplier relationships, and materials management processes
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through supply chain challenges independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong vendor and internal team relationships
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
