Project Engineer I Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead small projects and assist Project Engineer II on projects as assigned by the engineering manager
- Ensure successful execution of the Order Acknowledgement in terms of design, layout, component specification, machine performance, and budget
- Serve as a primary engineering contact during the design phase of the project
- Work with Project Manager to ensure that customer fulfills their obligations in terms of parts, part drawings, etc
- Translate concepted budget to an engineering budget and create a Plan vs. Actual document
- Review entire project with Project Manager and Chief Engineer for final definition prior to the start of design. This review includes line layout and station functionality along with any unique aspects to the line
- Specification of major purchased components, such as bowl feeders, screw driving systems, etc. Solicit questions, write equipment specifications, and initiate purchase requisitions for such components
- Ensure successful and timely release of prototype and production pallets
- Schedule and run "in-house" design review meeting and assist Project Manager with kickoff meetings and customer design reviews
- Update PM group in terms of project schedules while project is in Engineering
- Maintain Customer Drawing Matrix while project is in Engineering
- Oversee and participate in detail design and ensure correct design/release/check procedures are followed at engineering level
- Review designs for technical correctness prior to release of stations. This is inclusive, but not limited to, BOMs, machine layouts and details, I/O and cycle time analyses
- Serve as engineering contact for manufacturing during machining, assembly, and de-bug
- Notify Project Manager of any in-process scope changes
- Visit customer's facility, if necessary
- Track design hours against budget
- Track estimated BOM cost against budget
- Meet with Engineering Manager on weekly basis to review schedules and budgets
- Travel may be required
- Provide feedback to be used for performance reviews for Engineering team members
- Perform other tasks as requested by the Engineering Manager
- As needed, support the development of machine manuals by updating documentation
- As needed, support Applications Engineering and Sales during the development of quotation and tech spec
- As needed, assist in the development of standards in mechanical design
- As needed, assist Customer Service in support of Field Engineering
- As needed, assist in projects the Engineering Management may be involved in to further Lanco’s goals
- As needed, assist in new employee training, informal and formal
- 4 plus Years Automation Design experience
- Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of automation design, strong mechanical/control system emphasis
- Natural team leader with strong work ethic
- Project management skills
- Proficient in 3-D CAD, MS Office
- Basic Understanding of MRP system process
- Knowledge of Lanco standard components
- Capable of performing tolerance stack up calculations
- Capable of performing advanced mechanical engineering computations
- Comprehensive knowledge of department and companywide ISO procedures
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to apply Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning
- Knowledge of basic machining practices
- Required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl; reach with hands and arms
- Required to sit, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop
- Lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds unassisted
- Wear safety equipment, including proper PPE
